Police: Citizens Detain Bank Robber in Downtown DC

Two people who spotted a suspected bank robber in downtown D.C. Monday morning followed the man and held him down until police arrived, police say.

D.C. police say a man entered the HSBC Bank on the 1400 block of I Street NW and ordered a teller to give him cash. He said he had a bomb. The teller stalled.

The man then went to another teller and ordered the worker to give him money. The teller handed over cash.

The suspect fled on foot. Police were called about 11:30 a.m.

Two people spotted the man as he left the bank and followed him around Franklin Square, to the 1300 block of K Street NW. There, they detained him until police arrived.

Tide Baysden, 41, of Arlington, was arrested and charged with robbery.
