A police chase that began in Prince George’s County ended in NE Washington Friday after the car crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

Prince George’s County Police said an officer spotted a car that had been involved in robberies in the District and purse snatchings in the county.  A nearly 45-minute pursuit ensued as the car fled from county police into Washington.

After entering the District, U.S. Park Police and DC Police chased the car through Northeast and Southeast Washington, according to Prince George’s police.  The car finally crashed into a tree near the intersection of 63rd and East Capitol Street, NE.  The male driver was arrested and police say he may be involved in the robberies.

During the chase, a Prince George’s County police car was struck and the officer suffered minor injuries.
