A 22-year-old Prince William County woman has been charged with murdering her 3-month-old son after police say their investigation revealed that the mother's neglect resulted in the baby's death.

The baby boy, Tyeron Green, died in May 2010 when he and the mother, Tyesha M. Green, were living in Dale City. Green told police she had fallen asleep in bed with the baby and woke up to find him unresponsive.

Green was drinking and smoking marijuana in the bed that night, police said.

The police investigation found Green responsible for the boy's death, concluding she provided poor prenatal care and an unsafe sleeping environment and failed to provide follow-up treatment for a previously diagnosed infection.

Green also was charged with child abuse and neglect and is being held without bond.
