Police: 2 Arrested After Woman Set on Fire in DC

Two people have been arrested three days after a woman who tried to break up a fight was set on fire, D.C. police say.

Stephanie Chase Wheeler had been trying to break up a fight involving her daughter on 37th Street SE Sunday evening when someone poured gasoline on her and lit her on fire, police said.

Police arrested 39-year-old Dariell Gross and 17-year-old Mylan Barnes, both of Southeast, on Wednesday. Gross has been charged with assault with intent to kill while armed and Barnes has been charged with assault with intent to murder while armed. Barnes was charged as an adult.

Someone drove Wheeler more than a mile to the 4200 block of Minnesota Avenue to find help after the incident. First responders from a nearby fire station helped get her to a hospital, where she was in critical but stable condition.
