High School Senior Killed in Crash on I-270 in Bethesda

A high school senior was killed Wednesday afternoon after his car crashed into a box truck on I-270 in Bethesda, Maryland, police say.

Josh Snyder, 17, was driving southbound on I-270 in a silver Buick Century when for unknown reasons the Buick veered to the left onto the left shoulder, Maryland State Police said.

The Buick then struck the rear of a box truck that was parked on the left shoulder. No one was inside the truck, police said.

Snyder, a senior at Northwest High School in Germantown, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Jimmy D'Andrea, the principal at Northwest, sent a letter to students, informing them of Synder's death.

"For those of you who knew Josh, we ask that you remember and celebrate his life. He was a very kind, hard-working individual who had a positive impact on all of those around him, and he will be deeply missed," D'Andrea said.

A team of counselor will be at Northwest High School Thursday to help students and staff members, D'Andrea said.

Authorities blocked off several lanes for hours after the crash. Video from Chopper4 showed traffic backed up for miles in both directions.

All lanes reopened by about 7:30 p.m.
