Police launch criminal investigation

A 2-year-old D.C. child who paramedics declined to take to the hospital died from pneumonia, the D.C. medical examiner has ruled.

Paramedics visited Stephanie Stephens's home Feb. 10,  when the child was having trouble breathing. They chose not to take her to the hospital.

A few hours later, paramedics were called again and decided to transport Stephanie, but the child died the next day.

D.C. police launched a criminal investigation into the child's death.
