Planes From Closed Museum Moving to Shannon Airport

A dozen historic planes that were on display at the now-closed Virginia Aviation Museum at the Richmond International Airport have found a new home.

The planes will go to the Shannon Airport near Fredericksburg, where they will be displayed in the New Shannon Air Museum, The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

The original Shannon museum was open between 1976 and 1985, and the planes had been previously displayed there. After that museum closed to the public, the planes eventually went to the Virginia Aviation Museum.

The New Shannon Air Museum is scheduled to open in spring 2017. The collection will be displayed in a recently renovated hangar that originally housed the planes.

The planes originally were part of the collection of Spotsylvania County aviation enthusiast Sidney L. Shannon Jr.
