A man was struck and killed by a Metro train Wednesday morning.

The man was struck on the inbound portion of the rails at about 9:50 a.m. as a Red Line train pulled into the Shady Grove Station, according to Metro. Witnesses said the man was on the tracks intentionally.

Crews freed the man from under the train about 20 minutes later and transported him to a local hospital. He later died.

Trains ran on one track between Shady Grove and Twinbrook. Fourteen shuttle buses moved more than 350 passengers between the Shady Grove,

Rockville

and Twinbrook stations.

Red Line service returned to normal after noon.
