Man Fatally Shot Near Gallaudet University

A man died following a shooting near Gallaudet University Wednesday afternoon, News4's Shomari Stone reported.

He was identified Thursday as 21-year-old Gregory Darnell Troxler of the District.

The victim was shot in an alleyway in the 1100 block of 8th Street NE about 3:50 p.m. An officer about a block away on Florida Avenue heard the shots, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

“He immediately responded down in to this block on 8th Street and discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds in the alley in this block,” Lanier said.

Lanier says the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told News4's Shomari Stone that he heard five shots.

Lanier said they are investigating all angles and are interviewing witnesses.

Gallaudet University, located across the street, was not connected to the shooting and was not on lockdown. The university was not affected.
