Pepco Merger Opponents Want Probe Into Bowser Deal

Opponents of a merger between energy companies Exelon and Pepco are calling on District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser to disclose potential conflicts of interest in her handling of the deal.

District of Columbia regulators rejected the proposed $6.8 merger in August, saying it wouldn't benefit ratepayers. Pepco and Exelon then entered settlement talks with Bowser's administration. A settlement announced in October calls on Exelon to invest $78 million in the city. Regulators have agreed to consider the settlement, which would allow the merger to go forward if approved.

Opponents of the merger say Bowser should answer for the timing of a land and naming rights deal with Pepco for the new D.C. United soccer stadium. On Wednesday, they plan to request an investigation into potential conflicts of interest.
