After two pedestrians were struck and killed in the same stretch of Northwest D.C. within one day of each other, neighbors and safety advocates rallied in the victims' memory.
Nearly 100 people marched along Wisconsin Avenue NW Thursday night, gaining participants as they threaded their way past sidewalk cafes.
The pedestrian safety group All Walks DC organized the safety walk to remember George Mina, 31, and Margaret Ruth Dickie, 79, and to help prevent other deaths.
Mina, a pediatric phlebotomist, was crossing Wisconsin Avenue at Veazy Street NW the evening of June 10 when he was struck by a Jaguar. Mina, of Arlington, was knocked unconscious and died days later.
The next day, about a mile-and-a-half south, Dickie was crossing Calvert Street NW near Wisconsin Avenue about 6:10 p.m. when she was hit by a truck, as News4 reported. Known to friends as "Miss Peggy," she died near where she had lived in the Carillon House apartment building for the past 50 years.
Both drivers remained on the scene. It wasn't clear whether they face any charges.
A local senior citizen said she was almost hit near the same location where Dickie was struck.

"It is terrible in this intersection. Right-hand turns, left-hand turns, no one pays any attention," she said.
David Mikhail participated in the walk to honor Mina, his friend.
"We would just like to see something done by the city," he said.
Advocates held up the pedestrian safety strategies in Arlington, Virginia as effective in reducing injuries.
