A man is in critical condition at an area hospital after being hit by a Montgomery County Police cruiser Tuesday night.
Authorities said the officer was responding to a domestic violence call in Gaithersburg when the officer hit 61-year-old Otto Reed of Gaithersburg just before 11 p.m. near Chestnut Street and East Diamond Avenue.
Officials said Gaithersburg was not in a crosswalk, and the officer's lights and siren were activated.
The officer in the cruiser gave the man medical attention until he was taken to the hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
