More Metro riders will soon be able to add money to their fare cards online.

Metro is expanding a pilot program that allows SmartTrip users to avoid the lines at the vending machines and re-load their fare cards on a website.

The program started with 250 people in June and now about 150,000 will try it.

Metro has yet to release details on how new riders can join the program.

SmarTrip cards can hold a maximum value of $300.  They are also sold by mail, at some CVS locations, at Giant Food stores, and at Metro sales offices.  For more info, click here.
