Partial Bridge Collapse Causes Train Derailment, No Injuries

Fire officials say 30 freight-train cars have derailed in northern Virginia due to an apparent partial collapse of a railway bridge.

The Alexandria Fire Department said the 167-car CSX freight train came off the tracks in the city shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday.

No injuries were reported, and all crew members were accounted for.

Authorities say the derailed cars did not contain and hazardous materials, and personnel have not identified any spills or leaks. The train tracks were closed, but there weren't any traffic impacts.

Photos published by the fire department on Twitter show cars completely overturned amid a large debris field.

It's unclear if the weather conditions contributed to the derailment.

CSX officials said Sunday crews removed the derailed cars, but were still working on cleaning up debris.

The Virginia Rail Express said it would operate on a normal schedule on Monday.

Freight and passenger train service will run at slower speeds on two of the three tracks.
