Police have not released the age or identity of the person who was killed.

Gunfire once again rang out in the streets of Trinidad Monday night. It's a sound all too familiar to the Northeast Washington neighborhood, but this time, the shots came from Park Police officers, and killed a person they say had a gun.

The shooting happened around 8:30 Monday night in an alley behind the 1200 block of Holbrook St. NE. The Park Police officers were working with the FBI as part of the Safe Streets Task Force when they received a call for a male suspect with a gun. Police say officers spotted a suspect with a weapon in the alley. When they felt threatened, at least one officer fired at the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Hundreds of neighborhood residents demanding answers poured into the streets shortly after the shooting; police say those angry crowds dispersed a short time later with no major incidents.

Investigators say they recovered a handgun from the scene.
