Panel Named to Consider Bedford Reversion Plan

Bedford's proposal to revert to a town has entered the final stage.

The Virginia Supreme Court has appointed a three-judge panel to review the plan.

The panel's members are Circuit Judges Pamela S. Baskervill, Brett L. Geisler and William N. Alexander II. They will make the final ruling in the reversion process.

Bedford's City Council and the Bedford County Board of Supervisors have both approved a reversion agreement. The Virginia Commission on Local Government recommended the reversion in July.

Mayor Skip Tharp tells The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/QpOJph ) that officials don't expect any issues with the plan.

If the plan is approved, Bedford would revert to a town and become part of the county.

South Boston and Clifton Forge are the only cities that have reverted to town status.
