Juvenile Arrested in Jewelry Store Robbery

A juvenile boy has been arrested and charged in the Sophia’s Jewelry Store robbery on February 1. He has been charged with two felony offenses: Abduction and robbery.

Two males entered the business at 6330 Springfield Plaza in Springfield, Virginia, shortly after 10 a.m. when the owner was preparing his display cases, police said. They appeared to be browsing.

One of them went behind the counter and forced the victim behind a wall at knife point, police said. The other took the jewelry from the display cases and took items from a safe as the store owner desperately tried to kick it closed.

The store owner continued to struggle with one of the robbers as the other fled the store with the valuables, police said. The owner ran to an adjacent business for help and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are continuing their investigation.
