A man rescued from an Arlington County house fire Thursday morning passed away hours later from smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were called to the 2100 block of South Randolph Street at 4:30 a.m. The second alarm was called shortly after their arrival — approximately 70 firefighters responded to the home.
A neighbor said he overheard someone yelling for help.
"'I need help, help me, help me!' Then we saw the flames."
Fire crews were able to rescue an unconscious 73-year-old Dennis Lee, who was trapped inside the home. He was transported to Virginia Hospital Center and later pronounced dead.
Lee was a retired contractor and had lived in the same home for 30 years.
The estimated damage to the home is $90,000.
