Man Fatally Shot in Front of Oxon Hill Home

Prince George's County Police are working to identify the man who was found shot to death on the front lawn of an Oxon Hill home.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of Maury Place around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning and found 20-year-old Samuel Cheadle of southeast D.C. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gregory Campbell and his wife told police they didn't know the man who was found so close to their front door. But they did hear the gunshots that claimed his life.

"I heard four shots. I thought it was just someone shooting into the air," Campbell said, who was awakened by the gunfire.

He told News4's Richard Jordan that the violence did not surprise him. "It happens so much; people get kind of immune to it."

But the shooting left many of his neighbors shaken.

"...[S]cared me to death. Woke me up, kept me up the rest of the night, that's it," another neighbor said.

Investigators spent several hours combing the area for evidence.

While no information on the shooter has been released, police say those who live in the area are not in any danger.

The shooting remains under investigation.
