On-the-Job Incident Kills Construction Worker in His 80s

Victim reportedly struck by dump truck

Police have identifed an 84-year-old construction worker who was killed on the job Tuesday in northeast D.C.

A dump truck reportedly struck Leroy Cook just before 10 .a.m. at an asphalt plant in the 1100 block of W Street NE.

Cook worked for Fort Myer Construction and was described by the company's vice president as a "long-time" and "well-loved" employee, according to a Washington Post blog.

Police and officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.
