Officials: 20 Burglaries in Fairfax County Could Be Linked

Sometimes they kick in the back door. Other times they cut the phone line that powers the home security system.

The prolific burglar (or band of burglars) is not being deterred by seclusion or time of day.

For Susan Frei, it was more than a burglary.

"They hit the jackpot, literally," she said. "They took my mother's jewelry. They took my sister's jewelry, both of which passed away. Just antique jewelry you can't replace."

The Frei house was one of four hit in the same evening on Dec. 30. Since Nov. 13, burglars have hit 20 homes in the Burke area, Fairfax County police said.

The burglars seem to be targeting upscale neighborhoods and usually strike between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. when they don't think anyone is home. That's why police don't have a description.

So far, no one has been hurt.
