A Prince George's County police officer accidentally shot himself while responding to a report of a fox attack.

The officer reportedly shot and killed a fox after it bit a woman twice in the 13000 block of Clarion Road in Fort Washington Monday evening.

But before the fox was killed, it charged the officer, who backed away and tripped over some steps, causing him to shoot himself in the leg. He is in serious condition.

The woman was treated at the scene.
