SEAT PLEASANT, Md. -- A Seat Pleasant police officer is on administrative leave after shooting and killing a suspect in an armed carjacking, authorities said.
The officer confronted the suspect after responding to reports of a carjacking about 9:20 p.m. Friday in Lanham, police said. During the confrontation, the officer fired his weapon and struck the suspect in the upper body. The suspect was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The officer is an eight-year veteran and has spent more than two years with Seat Pleasant police, authorities said.
The officer was placed on routine administrative leave while police investigate the shooting.
