Officer Injured Outside Maryland Nightclub

Alleged shooter charged with first-degree murder

A Prince George’s County police officer is recovering after she was shot outside a popular nightclub.

It happened early Saturday morning at the Galaxy Nightclub in Langley Park, where authorities say Officer Rachael Jacob was working part-time.

Investigators say that three people were kicked out of the club. They then got into a car and started driving slowly through the parking lot.

After a while, shots rang out from the car outside the club, Officer Jacob in the leg. Prince George's County Police spokeswoman Julie Parker tweeted Saturday afternoon that the bullet had been removed from Officer Jacob's leg. Parker also noted that the officer was a four-year veteran of the force.

Investigators say that 32-year-old Kelly Gilliss of Beltsville has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and using a handgun in the commission of a crime.

The investigation is ongoing.
