Washington Hospital Center Nurses May Strike

AP

Nurses at Washington Hospital Center announced Thursday they plan to go through with a one-day strike the day before Thanksgiving.

National Nurses United said nurse understaffing is hurting patient care.

The union hopes the strike will force a new contract with hospital management.

Washington Hospital Center is still hopeful for a resolution.

Officials say they have a contingency plan for the strike that includes bringing in nurses from major medical centers.

Washington Hospital Center issued a statement saying it "anticipates no reduction in services and will remain open on a full schedule, providing and delivering safe, high quality care for our patients."
