Four Rescued From House Fire in Northwest

Crews rescued four people from a house fire in Northwest Thursday morning

D.C. Fire has reported rescuing a total of four people from a house fire in the 1300 block of Locust Road and Fernway Road in northwest D.C. Thursday morning.

Crews responded to a call that came in around 6:30 a.m. with reports of a house fire. Three elderly people were trapped inside the single-family home, and were eventually rescued by D.C. Fire.

Investigators later released that a fourth person had also been rescued.

Neighbors said an elderly woman and her two sons have lived at the residence for decades.

Firefighters believe the fire started in a second-floor bedroom.

Two people were rescued from the first floor and were suffering from smoke inhalation. A third resident was found upstairs, but not in the bedroom where officials believe the fire started.

"The patient [found upstairs] was unconscious and we were performing advanced life support on that person, trying to keep that person alive to bring them to the hospital," said a D.C. firefighter.

All four have been taken to the hospital for treatment. At least one person is said to be in serious condition.

Investigators said it could take weeks to determine what caused the fire to start.
