Noisy Holiday Race Closes Streets On Mall

    Runners dressed up in their holiday gear before the Jingle All The Way 8K race Sunday morning.

    Right now, several roads near the National Mall are blocked off for a major road race.

    The Jingle All The Way 8K started at 9:00 Sunday morning, and according to race officials  5,000 runners registered to run the 4.9 miles.

    This year's course begins on Constitution Avenue near 12th Street. Runners will head towards Columbus Circle, go towards 3rd Street and move down to E Street.  Eventually they make their way back up 3rd Street to finish the race.

    Runners had to layer up for this race.  Sunday was the first morning temperatures in the Washington region dipped below freezing this winter season.

    Anyone headed towards the National Mall is urged to take Metro buses and trains. The following sections of city streets in Northwest are closed until noon:

    Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue
    Constitution Avenue to Louisiana Avenue
    Louisiana Avenue to D Street
    D Street to Delaware Avenue
    1st Street between Columbus Circle and parking lot
    D Street between 1st and 3rd
    D Street to 3rd Street
    3rd Street to Independence Avenue
    Independence Avenue to Washington Avenue
    Washington Avenue to 2nd Street
    2nd Street to E Street
    E Street to 3rd Street
    3rd Street to Independence Avenue
    Independence Avenue between 7th Street and 3rd Street
    3rd Street to Pennsylvania Avenue
    Pennsylvania Avenue to 12th Street
