No Officers to be Charged in Fatal DC Shooting of Armed Man

No officers will be charged in the fatal shooting of an armed man in Southeast D.C. following a 2015 police chase.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia announced Friday that it has finished reviewing the actions of four officers from the Prince George's County and Forest Heights, Maryland, police departments who were involved in the shooting of James Covington Jr. on Nov. 2, 2015.

The federal prosecutor's office said in a statement that the shooting followed the armed carjacking of a man in Fort Washington, Maryland. Officials said Covington, who was found driving the vehicle, bailed out of the car following a chase and pointed a gun at police.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said evidence showed that officers were acting in self-defense at the time of the shooting.
