Tanker Spills 5,000 Gallons of Milk

Don't cry over 5,000 gallons of spilled milk

A milk tanker truck overturned in Montgomery County Friday afternoon, spilling out about 5,000 gallons of milk at the intersection of Darnestown and Martinsburg roads.

Officials said they were called to the scene at about noon. First units arrived and found the tanker truck on its side, the truck was leaking diesel fuel and its load of raw milk. Initial reports indicated that about 50,000 gallons had spilled, but that number was later corrected to about 5,000 gallons.

The driver was not injured. Montgomery County hazardous materials teams were called to contain the diesel.

The Maryland Department of Environment was also asked to respond.
