Newport News Buys Stun Gun With Camera

Camera allows for review of the suspect's actions before, during and after the stun gun is fired

The Newport News Sheriff's Office says it's the first law enforcement agency in Virginia to buy a new stun gun that comes equipped with a camera.

The device's high-definition camera is activated when the Taser is pulled from the holster. It begins recording prior to the shot to allow for review of the suspect's actions before, during and after the stun gun is fired.

The X2 model also has two cartridges for immediate re-firing in case the target was missed.

The Newport News Sheriff's Office says it has received a shipment of the stun guns and that its personnel are undergoing training on their use. Training sessions are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
