New Report Finds Metro Employees Overworked, Tired

Study results to be presented this week

According to a new study, Metrorail employees are overworked and subject to fatigue, which could lead to accidents and mistakes.

The results of the study will be presented to Metro's board of directors next week. The report is the result of a five-month partnership between the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority and the Tri-State Oversight Committee, which is responsible for reviewing safety on the transit service.

It points out there are no state or federal laws which limit the number of hours employees can work, so many employees take advantage, working extra hours to earn overtime and maximize their retirement benefits.

A Metro spokesman says the agency will reserve comment until the final report is presented.
