Weather permitting, crews will be working this weekend to open two new lanes on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

The new through lanes will open on the outer loop side of the Capital Beltway. Transportation officials say the final preparations for the opening are expected to cause traffic delays, starting at 9 p.m. Friday. The work is expected to be finished by 7 p.m. Sunday. However rain on Friday could postpone the project for two weeks.

If all goes as planned this weekend, crews will return next weekend to open two new lanes on the inner loop.

The additional lanes will gave the new bridge more traffic capacity than the old bridge.
