New Speed Camera in Takoma Park

Five speed cams now in operation across the city

Officials emphasize safety of speed cameras

Keep an eye on your speedometer when you drive through Takoma Park, Md.

Police have installed a new speed camera in the 900 block of University Boulevard near Carroll Avenue.  It’s focused on traffic going eastbound.

Drivers who go 12 mph over the limit will be cited.  Between now and February 13, police will only issue a warning. After that, violators will get a big, fat ticket.

Police said they chose the University Boulevard location because of the high number of vehicle and pedestrian accidents that happen along that stretch.

This is the fifth speed cam in Takoma Park.

There’s one along the 7200 block of New Hampshire Avenue (southbound) and in the 7100 block of New Hampshire Avenue (northbound). Two cameras also operate in the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 500 block of Ethan Allen Avenue.
