Metro riders who park at the orange line's Dunn Loring-Merrifield station in Virginia are getting a new 1,400-space parking garage.
The garage will open Monday at 5 a.m. and replace the station's existing surface lot. The surface lot will close at the end of the day Sunday, and Metro will begin building the second phase of the garage project on that site.
The second phase of the parking garage project is expected to be complete in late 2014. Metro says the project will ultimately result in a 50 percent increase in parking capacity.
