Prince George's County unveiled its new composting site last week.

It’s the largest program of its kind and only the second in the state.

The site on Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro will take food scraps and yard waste from homes and businesses.

A special composter will seal in the odors and reduce the compost time from 18 weeks to 8 weeks. It creates a high quality fertilizer that can be sold to companies like nurseries.
