New Amtrak Chief of Police

A new chief of police was recently appointed for Amtrak.

Polly Hanson, a law enforcement professional with 27 years of experience with Metro Transit Police and three years with D.C. police, will soon be in charge of the police force that protects America’s railroad.

The Amtrak Police Department includes more than 500 law enforcement officers and civilians around the nation. With the help of local, state and federal agencies, they protect the passengers, employees and property of Amtrak.

Hanson is eager to return to transportation policing. "Sometimes in life there are opportunities that are a perfect fit,” she said, “and for me, leading the Amtrak Police Department is that fit."

Hanson will begin reporting to the Amtrak President and CEO on Dec. 17.
