Needy D.C. Residents Get Early Thanksgiving Meal

About 5,000 District of Columbia residents are expected to have a free Thanksgiving feast at the Washington Convention Center this week.

Mayor Vincent Gray is scheduled to join hundreds of volunteers in serving the 14th annual Safeway Feast of Sharing for needy residents on Wednesday. The feast includes a traditional turkey meal and trimmings.

The event also includes a job fair, free health screenings and a clothing distribution for those in need. Organizers are also offering free flu vaccines and diabetes testing.

The doors open at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, and the meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
