Nats Fans Hear ‘Big Boom' During Apparent Generator Explosion

A generator apparently exploded near Nationals Park, alarming many fans attending Friday night's game.

D.C. Fire and EMS said a generator appeared to have exploded at a construction site in the 1200 block of 1st Street SE. No one was injured and there was no fire, the fire department said.

But the boom from the explosion caused concern and people took to social media to report what they heard. A photo from one Twitter user appears to show a first responder vehicle about a block away from the stadium.

An announcement on the stadium's Jumbotron told fans to avoid gates near the incident. The explosion didn't interrupt the game.

The fire department said there were no power outages after the explosion, but a Pepco crew was on its way to the scene.
