National Weather Service Tallies Up 7 Virginia Tornadoes

The National Weather Service has confirmed at least seven tornadoes touched down in Virginia on Wednesday.

Meteorologists have added a twister in Mecklenburg County near the North Carolina state line and another in Lancaster County near the Rappahannock River. Posted weather service reports Friday rated them as EF1 tornadoes, with winds up to 100 mph.

Four people were killed Wednesday when tornadoes stretching from Southside Virginia to the coastal plain hit the state.

Three were killed in Waverly when a tornado with winds of up to 110 mph cut a 5-mile path through the southeastern Virginia community, while one person was killed in Appomattox. That tornado was clocked at up to 165 mph.

Other tornadoes were in Essex, Fluvanna and Patrick counties.
