The National Mall just received a very generous gift to help in its restoration efforts.
The family of a Washington developer is donating a million dollars to help restore the grounds and facilities on the mall. The Trust for the National Mall says this is the first million-dollar gift it's received solely for restoration efforts.
The gift comes from the Akridge Family Foundation, a month after businessman David Rubenstein donated $7.5 million to help repair the Washington Monument after it was damaged in last summer's earthquake.
The trust has set a goal of raising $350 million to restore some of the more rundown areas of the mall. The mall debuted a new LED lighting system Jan. 30.
