National Mall Design Competition Finalists

Designs can be seen April 9-15 at the Smithsonian Castle and National Museum of American History

The finalists have been chosen in the National Mall Design Competition and we get to see their design plans now.

The nonprofit “Trust for the National Mall” held a design competition to help restore and improve the National Mall after the wear and tear of 25 million annual visitors and 3,000 annual permitted events.

There will be one design team chosen for each of the three redesign sites: Union Square, the Washington Monument grounds at Sylvan Theater and Constitution Gardens.

Finalists’ plans include adding lakeside gardens, underground pavilions, and grassy amphitheaters at the Mall.

You can see the finalists’ models April 9-15 at the Smithsonian Castle and National Museum of American History.

A jury of design experts will select the winners of the competition in May.
