Thursday evening classes were canceled at the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College after a report of a suicidal person possibly armed near the campus.
A counselor reported to police Thursday evening that a man in an eighth floor apartment at 3701 S. George Mason Drive said he had a gun and was going to kill himself.
No shots have been fired at anyone.
Police have been talking to the man. They are not sure whether he actually has a gun.
The campus was locked down. People were told to stay inside and away from windows. The lockdown was lifted before 11 p.m.
