Two F-16 fighter jets intercepted a general aviation aircraft in restricted airspace Monday afternoon, according to NORAD.

The aircraft was out of communication in the capital region.

The fighters were scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base at about 2:30 p.m. When they encountered the aircraft, it left the restricted area.

No word yet on what type of aircraft it was or why it was in restricted airspace.
