Much of Md. Woman's Family Perishes in Typhoon

A Severn, Md. woman recently found out six of her Philippine family members passed away in this month's typhoon.

Norma Paris and her husband Kevin Paris were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary when the typhoon struck. As pictures of the damage flowed in, Norma patiently waited to hear back from her relatives.

"I asked my daughter if everyone's okay... she said, 'No, we [lost] a lot,'" Norma Paris said.

The couple has a retirement home in the Philippines where as many as 30 people took cover after the storm.

"Her brother and our grandson were underwater for much of the surge, but they did survive," Kevin Paris.

The two have lived in Mryland for the past 20 years. They married after Kevin served in the Air Force in the Philippines, and this Thanksgiving, they're praying their other 10 missing relatives are found.

"I'm still thankful that some of my brothers and sisters are still alive," Norma said.
