Motorcyclist Struck, Killed By Woman Who Ran Red Light in Virginia: Police

Leesburg Pike is closed in both directions as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, and is expected to remain closed for several hours

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash in Vienna, Virginia.

Joseph Thomas Timpane, 55, was driving a Harley Davidson south on Towlston Road just before 4 p.m. when he was struck by an 81-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Cruze west on Leesburg Pike, Fairfax County Police said. The woman failed to stop at a red light.

Timpane was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a stopped Nissan Altima in the left turn lane of eastbound Leesburg Pike, police said. The Chevrolet also strike the Nissan and then hit a Honda Pilot before stopping.

Timpane, of Springfield, died at the scene.

Three adults were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Charges against the driver of the Chevrolet are pending, police said. Speed and alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the crash.

Leesburg Pike was closed for several hours, with police diverting drivers at the Dulles Toll Road.
