A mother was shot in her car Tuesday evening in northwest Washington while her three children ducked for cover.
The 31-year-old woman was shot twice, but is expected to survive. Her 5-year-old child was hit by flying glass.
Two other children, ages 9 and 2, were inside the car at the time of the shooting in the 5100 block of 7th Street NW.
It's not yet clear who fired the barrage of bullets in a driving rain at the victim's car, or why.
The area was previously targeted by DC Police as an enhanced enforcement zone and officers arrived on the scene Tuesday evening within a minute.
