A mother and her teenage daughter are in the hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a driver in Laurel Friday night.

The women were crossing Route 198 at around 8 p.m. when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver who doesn't have a license, police said.

Investigators noted that the driver initially took off, but then returned to the area.

Witnesses followed the driver to a nearby shopping center, where they pinned in his car, removed his keys and kept the driver from getting away until police arrived, officials said.
