A passenger was stopped by TSA officers Sunday at Washington-Dulles International Airport after it was discovered the man had a 60 mm mortar round in his checked baggage.
Transportation Security Administration officers say explosives experts responded to the baggage screening area and determined the military weapon was dormant. Mortars are weapons used in indirect fire.
The man had just flown into the country and was heading to Denver. The passenger surrendered the mortar round to TSA.
Passengers are reminded that weapons, including inactive ones, are not permitted on aircraft.
