More traffic woes in Tysons Corner this weekend: construction work is closing down a major road in the area and big delays are expected.
Work crews are tearing down the old northbound I-495 bridge. For safety reasons, all four lanes of Chain Bridge Road will be closed under the Beltway. The four ramps connecting Chain Bridge to I-495 also will be temporarily closed.
It all begins at 9:30 p.m. Friday, and the closures will likely remain in place throughout the weekend.
Earlier this week, the northbound lanes of I-495 were shifted to the left and the ramp from northbound Chain Bridge to the Beltway was closed. Cars must use a new traffic signal to access the highway.
Commuters have been warned to expect longer drive times for the next 18 to 24 months.
