‘Black Lives Matter' Spray Painted on Monument to Confederate President in Richmond

The Jefferson Davis monument in Richmond, Virginia, was vandalized overnight.

Someone spray painted the phrase "Black Lives Matter" along the side of the monument, NBC affiliate WWBT reported Thursday.

The monument, a tribute to the former president of the Confederacy, was erected on Monument Avenue in 1907. Richmond served as the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

Similar incidents have been reported in the days following the massacre of nine people during Bible study at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina.
